Right Click Not Working

This isn’t one of my usual posts, but since it infuriated me so much while writing the previous post I thought I might as well right about it since I was here in my blog anyway.

While I was trying to copy and paste in my links, my right click button on my mouse stopped working. I was no longer able to simple right click and “copy” or “copy shortcut”. I had to use the Edit>Copy menu items. I dont’ know why, but this infuriated me to no end. My mouse is lucky to be in one piece. It’s still not working and after I reboot if it doesn’t see fit to cooperate my wife and I will have another piece of office equipment to go Office Space on! (I wish I had made a tape of us destroying my old fax machine!)

Designed for presentation quality, crystal reports is a proven, world standard solution that helps you to design, manage and deliver reports via the web as well as embedded in applications. It is a business intelligence application and was designed to generate reports from a wide range of data sources.

This leading software means users can arrange the data needed to complete a report in whichever format suits their business best. When the report is completed it can be saved as a file with an RPT extension, which means the report can be re-run at any time by re-opening the RPT file and refreshing the data within it by doing this it will demonstrate if any updates have been made. The report can then be previewed on the computer, printed or exported to a different file format such as PDF, Excel or a text document.

Whoever initially designed the report has the control and ability to open the report in the report designer in order to make changes and variations of the report. These variations can be saved as RPT files by modifying the file name. Crystal Reports are bundled with ActiveX controls, which when embedded in GUI, can provide alternative interfaces. This feature allows reports to be deconstructed into their base objects.

Crystal Reports software helps customers to create flexible and feature rich reports. The powerful report design allows you to create highly formatted and interactive professional reports. It gives you the ability to design within the leading .NET and Java development tools. The flexible application development tool also allows cross platform support from Java, .NET and COM. Satellite Internet Is Another Option For Accessing The Internet

Author: Robert Thomson
When you need the Internet and you live in a rural part of town, you can now have the Internet, which may not have been available before. Find out how.

Satellite internet is another way for computer users to access the Internet if they do not have access to cable or DSL. Dial up is so out dated and slow that people are looking for alternatives ways to access the Internet. With the availability of the satellite high-speed broadband connection, many people in rural areas are now able to access the World Wide Web. This was not possible for many people until a few years ago when satellite started offering high-speed Internet connections to their customers. You might remember that Direct TV offered satellite television first and soon after offered its customers Hugesnet, which has a satellite high-speed broadband connection.

Although Hugesnet and Direct TV are two different companies, they work together to bring customers one solution to the high costs of cable and DSL. With DSL, you need a telephone line and with cable, you need to have their specified service package for television in order to get the Internet. Both of these options are expensive for the average user. With Hugesnet and Direct TV, you get the service you need in one package and do not need a telephone in the home or any specific TV packages.

The high-speed broadband connection is faster than cable or DSL and costs about the same when you compare prices to additional services you need with cable and DSL. Although the start up cost might be a little more, you will still save more money in the first year by having Hugesnet satellite Internet. You need the larger dish that needs to point into the southern hemisphere without obstructions to have Direct TV and Hugesnet. The nice thing is that sometimes they offer free installation. This is true for existing customers as well, where as cable only offers the specials to new customers.

If you need an Internet connection, you will find that Hugesnet satellite Internet gives you everything you need. You get faster speeds, which means your download and upload times are faster. If you download large files or music files, you want something that delivers the speed. High-speed Internet not only delivers the speed, but it delivers alternatives to slow connections you have with cable and DSL. Your Internet is always connected. You just have to open your browser and you are ready to go. With DSL, you have to sign into an account and then wait to connect.

When you need the Internet and you live in a rural part of town, you can now have the Internet, which may not have been available before. You have your television and Internet needs all with one dish. The advantages of having the satellite Internet outweigh the start up cost, which some might consider a disadvantage. Your connection is always secure and you have no worries of losing your connection as you do with cable or DSL. If you need an Internet connection and Direct TV, you can have a technician come to your home to access your needs before signing any agreements. Just another service you do not receive from cable or DSL.

31 Risk in Offshore IT Outsourcing Contracts: Or Buying Promises

Author: Robert Thomson
No matter how much due diligence you attempt, making a decision on contracting with an onshore or offshore IT service provider is much like buying promises.

No matter how much due diligence you attempt, making a decision on contracting with an onshore or offshore IT service provider is much like buying promises. To some extent you are going to have to trust in your selected partner to be committed to providing your company with the high quality services that they have promised. Your lawyers will surely not agree but offshore contracts are only worth the integrity of the company that you are contracting with. Dun & Bradstreet does not include this metric (integrity) in corporate profiles yet and it is not on a credit report either. One of my partners in Brazil would often tell me “Henry we are highly motivated for this opportunity”, but I did not fully understand the value of that statement until we got into the trenches together.

Here are a few of the promises you are accepting or questions you may have doubts about when signing that offshore IT staff augmentation or support contract:

1. Will I really get the hours I am paying for?
2. Is my intellectual property and information secure?
3. Am I really going to be provided with qualified professionals?
4. Will billing rates go up after I train the new team in my business?
5. Can I reach this vendor when I need immediate support?
6. Will this vendor work with me when the going gets rough?
7. Is this a stable country politically, socially, and economically?
8. Are currency exchange rates an issue?
9. Is this a safe country for business travel?
10. Is this vendor’s location in a safe part of town?
11. What is the cost of business travel to this location?
12. What is the cost for offshore professionals from there to travel to the U.S.?
13. Can professionals at this location get a U.S. passport and visa for U.S. visits?
14. Are U.S. contracts legally binding in this country?
15. How long does it take to get a visa and passport for team members to make training and onsite orientation trips to my location?
16. What will it cost for visas and passports for your offshore team?
17. Will the offshore team have someone full time who is experienced in managing offshore projects?
18. Is this a stable company, i.e. good credit and strong experienced management?
19. Does this vendor’s company have the interpersonal skills to work with my company?
20. Does this offshore vendor have executive management that speak English and will be responsive and share your since of urgency?
21. Are this vendor’s team management and executive management going to be available in your workday time zone on short notice when you need them?
22. Can this vendor grow with your companies needs?
23. Do they have commercial liability insurance, errors and omissions insurance?
24. Can they buy commercial liability insurance in their country?
25. Will they work in your workday time zone?
26. Does this company have a secure network infrastructure?
27. Is their network infrastructure professionally designed and firewall protected?
28. Is their facility physically secure?
29. Are extreme weather conditions a factor affecting travel, security, or work schedules in this country?
30. Does this location pose natural disaster risk to your business?
31. Is this vendor going to be flexible as your needs change?

No matter how much time on money you spend developing a clam tight contract with an offshore outsourcing provider you never want to have to consider international litigation or international arbitration for contract disputes. Unless your needs are well defined and static, which I have never seen, the requirements better be very general in that contract or they will need review and changes before the ink gets dry.

In any offshore project establishing good relationships are key to clear communications. Vision TRE has been nurturing relationships with our offshore partner locations in Brazil and Panama for years. We have business relationships in South and Central America that have been proven dependable over the years. Integrity, trust, mutual cultural respect, and a shared since of urgency make these relationships valuable to any company that contract with us to establish an offshore team.

Online Computer Training For Free

Author: Ian Traynor
So you're on a tight budget and at the same time you want some computer training, right? Nowadays there are a lot of options for people seeking better themselves through various training programs and certification classes. However, some of them just can’t afford to make some of these options possi

So you're on a tight budget and at the same time you want some computer training, right? Nowadays there are a lot of options for people seeking better themselves through various training programs and certification classes. However, some of them just can’t afford to make some of these options possible due to not enough cash flow. That is where free online computer training comes in to picture. Where else can you go and get enough information to teach yourself all about computers? You can learn from the most difficult HTML (hyper-text mark up language, used to build websites) to as simple as how to tear down and rebuild a CPU (central processing unit)?

If you can just plug into a free online computer training system or a set of resources available in almost all places, you can literally teach yourself almost anything. There are a variety of ways to go about this process, so let's start from the beginning. The very first thing you need to determine on your own what exactly you want to learn from your free online computer training, before you ever embark on your online adventure. Pick out your base subject, and then you can get started researching online sources for free training. For our examples, let's take the subject of HTML and see where we can get some free online computer training to learn HTML.

As the part of first step, let's get on a major search engine like Yahoo or Google and do a search for the term 'free HTML training' or 'free online computer training'. You will find quite a few results coming up in reference to these terms, but don't be fooled. Most of these won't really have free training, maybe just a free sample class or maximum two. Some of these won't even have anything free at all, they either buy an advertising slot or they develop their website in a way to show up higher in the results to get your attention. Remember, what you are looking for is a site that is truly going to give you free online computer training.

Sometimes you can see that the best results for free online computer training can come in the form of free forums or bulletin boards. For all those who are really new to the Internet, let's talk about them for a minute. Forums and bulletin boards are web pages that allow visitors to sign up as 'users', usually for free. Once you are registered with these sights, you can then post and respond to others on the forums or boards and ask questions. The specialty of these resources is that there are hundreds of websites out there covering almost all topics that can be imagined, especially the one’s dealing with computers. So for all those who are searching for an online free computer training this works like crazy. They also contain a great wealth of information from other users who have answered in return to the questions generally asked on the boards.

Another such website which contains one such free online computer training is e-zines and newsletters. You can as well do another research for the search term ‘free online computer training’ in conjunction with terms like e-zines and newsletters. Don’t worry as most of these too are free and you can subscribe for them either for a long or short time depending on what kind of materials are provided in the due course. Overall it can be said that where there is a will, there is a way, especially when it comes to free online computer training.

Where to find free TV on the Web

There's lots of TV programming available on the Internet if you want to pay. But did you know about these free sites?
January 23, 2008 (Computerworld) -- Video is all over the Web, and no wonder. With the advent of superfast broadband connections running at over 5Mbit/sec., widescreen monitors that have finally replaced the boxy CRTs of the past and a plethora of fresh and funny content, there's a perfect storm for video to gain even more momentum.

Like Napster did for music, site likes YouTube.com take "video on demand" to another level. Most of the video content is free for the taking and instantly accessible, although it usually consists of short commercial clips or "funny at the moment" viral videos.

Apple iTunes, Veoh.com, Amazon Unbox and others actually offer real TV shows -- for a price.
Meanwhile, the television industry is still trying to figure out how to deal with Web streaming, with the Writers Guild of America striking recently -- mostly over rebroadcast royalties.

Adding fuel to the fire: Besides well-known commercial ventures such as Unbox, there are several alternative methods of obtaining the best shows for free. And I'm not talking about BitTorrent or anything like that. Sure, torrents have been around for a while, but they require you to download a client, search for links and share your bandwidth.

It turns out, for every Amazon Unbox, there are 10 more sites that allow you to stream or download shows for free. There is an ongoing debate about the legality of Web sites using contributed video and other content, and experts disagree on much of the language of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which in part addresses the issue. To date, no definitive court decisions have settled the matter, either.

Joost

With some licensed content (e.g., Comedy Central shows and a few Paramount Pictures movies) and a plethora of YouTube-like videos, Joost is intended as a television version of Skype. The selection is skin deep and a mile wide: There are videos of young women doing yoga, an Australian food channel and short animated clips that were likely created for an art school credit.

Hulu

This NBC Universal and News Corp joint venture is still in beta (and access is limited), but Hulu promises to feature full-length episodes akin to the new NBC Direct service. Shows like 24 and The Office will be hallmarks, as long as the service gets off the ground before the reruns start.

Page2

TV Freeload

TV Freeload is not technically a streaming site or even a torrent distributor. Instead, the site points you to links that allow you to download the latest shows, such as Bionic Woman, Entourage and Weeds. Hosts are usually legitimate file storage such as MegaUpload.com and FileFactory.com, which both have strict policies regarding copyright infringement.

At FileFactory.com, for example, you can click a link to report a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) violation, but a FileFactory representative told me the site has no system to search for and police copyrighted content. Posters can keep changing the URL for hosted shows, and TV Freeload is probably not culpable for the links.

Graboid

Similar to Joost or Kazaa, Graboid is a Windows program with built-in streaming. The client lets you search for shows like Prison Break and browse through a list of channels, like a local Fox Network affiliate. Graboid isn't linking to a streaming site (like allyourchannels.com) or merely directing you to downloadable content (like TV Freeload). It's streaming the actual content.

The site claims that Graboid has the best "speed, selection and quality" and does boast a wide selection of network affiliate channels. However, according to Rob Enderle at the Enderle Group in San Jose, regional affiliates usually don't license content for broadcast outside of a geographic area because of local advertising agreements. (Graboid itself has a Legal FAQ, but the page was blank at the time of this report. It also has a Copyright Policy page. Graboid offers high-definition and other shows if you sign up for a Gold ($12.97 per month) or Premium ($24.97 per month) membership.

TVU

Another downloadable client, TVU provides hundreds of TV streams, most of them not recognizable network channels. You can watch Fox News, Spike and ABC News and a few affiliates, plus old science fiction movies and a few sports channels.

Both Graboid and TVU work like independent TV stations that rebroadcast streams -- they aren't actually hosting content. Still, according to Will Rodger, director of public policy at the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) in Washington, any rebroadcasts of network shows requires a licensing agreement. "It is not OK to send programming out to the public Internet that has not been licensed for such purposes," says Rodger. "Anyone distributing entire, copyrighted works has to have the permission of the copyright holder."

"The DMCA gives the MPAA and [the Recording Industry Association of America] broad latitude over who you can hang," says Enderle. "There's an ongoing effort to legitimize network and content owner involvement in copyright over streaming."

Internet Forums and their use

Author: Carolyn Clayton

Forums; commonly referred to as message boards, discussion groups and bulletin boards. They are a web application for holding discussions and posting user generated content.

Forums; commonly referred to as message boards, discussion groups and bulletin boards. They are a web application for holding discussions and posting user generated content. If you need help or advice you can almost guarantee there will be a forum about the specific topic area where you will be able to contribute to the discussion and find out exactly what you need.

Forums are created and used for a number of different reasons. For example most bands and music artists that have a website will more than likely have a forum where fans will be able to discuss the recording artist and interact with other people who share the same interests.

Forums can also be used by businesses as a way of showcasing their expertise in the hope of enticing new customers to their business. In this case the forum is used as a way of marketing; it sells the business and its service to members of the public and people can use forums such as this to find a business service that they need.

Forums are free to use and anyone can use them. There are a few forums still around that require no registration meaning that anyone can just go and post a message on it. However due to problems with spammers taking advantage of the fact these forums don’t require registration, many of the forums that are built today are built so that in order to post you have to register. Registering on a forum merely takes a matter of minutes and by registering with a forum you have the option of choosing your own username and image, known as an avatar. You also get the option of writing your own signature, which appears directly under you post. Within this signature you can post links to sites and include pretty much any information that you want.

Forums are modified by people known as administrators. These administrators are usually people that have something to do with the building of the site or is someone who is employed by the site owner to do this particular job. Administrators modify the posts that are made, they can move, delete, and edit topics. They also have the power to shut the forum down as well as being able to delete, ban and create members. This is effective but also hard work, administrating a forum takes a lot of time, often more than the administrator is given.

Forums, like many places across the Internet, can sadly suffer from spam. Although the introduction of making registration compulsory across many forums has reduced and stopped some of the spam from getting through, spammer’s have created what are known as spambots. These are programmed to be able to fill in a registration form on a forum and are programmed by the spammer to leave messages promoting the spammers service/product. Spambot’s signatures on forums are always more than likely filled with links taking you to explicit or malicious content.

Forums can also suffer from individuals known as trolls. These individuals breach the rules of forums by posting derogatory messages about sensitive topics and often post links to ‘shock sites’ as well as placing images across the forums that other members may find disturbing.

The positive aspects of forum use however greatly outweigh the few negative aspects that we can see through spambots and trolls. Forums are a great resource on the Internet and will continue to be in the future.

Why Using Non-Conventional Security Awareness Training is Crucial!

Author: Gale Yocom
Financial Institutions can look to more in-depth examinations this year since the FDIC issued FIL-105-207, which updated the IT Examination Officer’s Questionnaire.

Financial Institutions can look to more in-depth examinations this year since the FDIC issued FIL-105-207, which updated the IT Examination Officer’s Questionnaire. The FDIC wants to make sure that insured depository institutions have security programs that guarantee the confidentiality of customer information in addition to anticipating and protecting against security threats and unauthorized access of customer information.

To ensure that these issues were addressed, there are five sections on the questionnaire, which includes Risk Assessment, Operations Security & Risk Management, Audit/Independent Review Program, Disaster Recovery/ Business Continuity Management and Vendor Management/Service Provider Oversight.

Parts 1 and 4, namely Risk Management and Disaster Recovery are much the same as the 2005 questionnaire, with some minor changes. The other sections have a number of significant changes; one of the most important is that the 2007 questionnaire has included an entirely new section that focuses on questions about Vendor Management. One particular topic of concern addresses the FIL, because most institutions do not have standard security awareness training programs in place.

Training Awareness Using Non-Conventional Methods

With so many new complex threats going beyond the standard pharming, phishing and vishing attacks, assaults are now focusing on the end user or client side exploits. These attacks are exploiting and affecting mail readers, Internet browsers and third party applications such as Adobe Reader. Because of these more sophisticated attacks, it is more important than ever to educate users/employees about these risks, which can be achieved by making sure IT Managers have compliant training sessions in place.

What we at Covetrix discovered is that most security awareness training programs are simply not enough. They are usually done annually or only when the employee is initially hired. Even with extensive training, the level of absorption of these topics is often forgotten in just a matter of weeks, usually because of a lack of interest or because of the approach of the material presentation.

After a while, employees almost get the feeling of someone crying wolf when it comes to phishing / pharming / vishing attacks, which for future reference we will refer to social engineering. The training programs must be adapted so that the critical level of importance remains high. We believe by providing non-conventional, educational and real world examples, a financial institution will not only be able to educate employees with increased absorption, but they will also be able to understand how these scams work thereby being able to spot a scam and then quickly catching it before it impedes on the customer’s privacy.

Tracking Employee Review is Critical to Retention

As our clients are eager to improve on their security levels, we believe it is vitally important to build strong teams, teams that can provide a quick response to potential threats, keeping security risks from causing havoc in the financial institution. At Covetrix, we see a need to track employee reviews of the security training material. The reason? It has been proven that more often then not, an individual may watch security awareness training videos, read e-mail messages, or review computer use handbooks with the best of intentions, yet their level of retention and absorption of the security knowledge is often limited. Covetrix has designed IT training videos that keep interest high and retention longer.

The way they work is the video pauses and asks the viewer questions about the previously viewed content before continuing. This information is also reported to IT staff for compliance during examinations. Trained individuals must be ready and prepared to make quick decisions so that nothing threatens the security of the financial institution. Yet even with willing participants, individuals are sometimes overwhelmed with too much information.

Despite the idea of ensuring that videos are watched and questioned and then asked about their understanding of content, we need the information to stick. To ensure that training methods stay in the minds of the users/employees, new ways of implementing the information must be enforced, which means it is necessary to implement non-conventional techniques.

How Non-Conventional Methods Work

In the event of identity theft scams, placing untrained people in security roles is not going to keep security risks away! What will keep them away is giving individuals the proper training, continually expanding on knowledge through effective training programs. As a well-qualified technology expert and experienced security specialist, it has become very obvious that when individuals are properly trained, they retain and absorb information more readily. And based on my years of experience, one of the best ways to help retain and absorb information is through non-conventional strategies.

What do I mean by non-conventional strategies? In most training programs, the user is given a direction of lists which may include things like the following:

1. Don’t open bad mail
2. Don’t go to a bad website
3. Report all phishing emails

The problem stems from the user’s actual understanding of this information. Our videos are using non-conventional training by actually showing a user exactly what is a bad mail, how they are created, or how a hacker creates a phishing site and attacks their institution. Combined with the employee’s review of the information and non-conventional training, the knowledge transfers information in a far more effective manner.

The Outcome

As a result of implementing these innovative awareness training video strategies, we have seen a high level of success during our third party penetration testing and audits. Equally important are the individuals who are able to understand and retain information more efficiently.

It’s very clear that even the most effective training program requires periodic testing to ensure that the training program is serving the ever-changing needs of the financial institution. And just as technological challenges continue to change and grow, so too must training programs grow and change as well.

With non-conventional training strategies, financial institutions have a far better chance of keeping customers safe from scams and unauthorized access to private information.

Satellite Internet Service Provides More Speed

Author: Robert Thomson
If you buy a new computer these days, you want a Internet that has some speed. Satellite Internet service is the way for people to have the speed they need for that new computer.

Dial up is the slowest way to connect to the Internet for people who do not have access to DSL or cable. The fact is that people in rural areas are not connecting with cable or DSL because the services do not extend that far out of local areas. This is frustrating for people who need to work at home or have a need for a fast computer. If you buy a new computer these days, you want a Internet that has some speed. Satellite Internet service is the way for people to have the speed they need for that new computer.

When you buy a computer that has everything you want and need, you want to be able to use it in a way it was designed for, fast connections for downloading and uploading. Many rural residents with lightening fast satellite Internet service have replaced dial up and are reaching the potential of their computers. The speeds are faster than cable or DSL and allow you to do more things online that you could not do with dial up, cable or DSL. With satellite high-speed Internet, you are always connected to the Internet, therefore there is no waiting to connect.

People who live in cities or rural areas that want to use Voip as their phone will need DSL or high-speed Internet to use this service. If you use the Internet Voip phone system, a high-speed connection is the only way to use the phone system in real time. This is just another reason for people to have a satellite Internet service. You will find that many satellite services are following Hugesnet and offering their high-speed Internet connections. If they can match up speed wise, they are a good bargain. The only thing you have to consider is the connection speed, downloading and uploading times.

The best thing to do before selecting a satellite Internet service is to compare speed charts for downloads and uploads. If you would choose a service that is priced cheaper than another service, you may find out that the service is a little less than what you could get somewhere else. You also need to select a satellite service that gives you good television service. Some companies do not have reliable reception in certain areas or weather conditions. This has to be a consideration as well when deciding on the type of Internet satellite you want to have in your home.

High-speed satellite Internet service is nice to have if it works all the time. Dropped signals are rare with some providers, but are common with other providers. Since you need something reliable, you have to compare and maybe even check with neighbors to see if they have satellite to see if they have a preference for a specific provider. You want to have a fast connection and reliable service to use you computer the way it should be used. Nothing less than fast will give you the true benefits of the newer computers today.

The OSI Reference Model and TCP/IP architecture

Author: Jirka Coolhousing
The OSI Model was developed by the International Organization for Standardization in order to provide a standard for computer networking. In 1984 the organization accepted the model as an international standard documented in ISO 7498.

The model represents a standard for connecting network systems. The model does not specify the ways in which the individual systems are connected but serves as a description of its layers, functions and services.

The OSI Model consists of seven layers, each of which, as was already stated, receives the services of the layer below and provides services to the layer above.

1. Physical layer
2. Data Link layer
3. Network layer
4. Transport layer
5. Session layer
6. Presentation layer
7. Application layer

Description of the individual layers

Physical Layer

The Physical layer comprises the lowest layer of the OSI model. Its function is to establish, terminate and manage either a point-to-point connection or a point-to-multipoint connection, to effectively distribute the communication resources to the users and to convert the digital data into signals transmitted by the medium.

Data Link Layer

The Data Link layer provides the link between two adjacent network entities, establishes transmission parameters and signals those errors in the physical layer that it cannot correct. The Data Link layer arranges bits into frames and identifies them with MAC addresses. The MAC provides the basis for the local device(s) connection whereby it creates the domain for unicast and broadcast transmission.

Bridges and switches operate at this layer.

Network Layer

The Network layer provides functional means of transferring data from a source to a destination (at variable lengths) via one or more networks while maintaining the quality of service requested by the Transport layer. The Network layer performs routing functions using the services of routers that operate here.

Routers work with a hierarchical addressing scheme. The most widely known protocol of the network layer is the Internet Protocol (IP).

Transport Layer

The Transport layer provides data transfer between end users. The main transport layer protocols are TCP and UDP.

TCP
" a reliable data transfer protocol
" Flow control protocol regulates receiving of data packets and prevents the TCP receiver from overflowing
" Windowing - after certain amount of data packets have been labelled as received (the amount is given by transmission specifications), the sending end user may request transfer of additional data

UDP
" an unreliable data transfer protocol
" used by network applications that do not require the whole of data packets to be received by the receiving host (Internet radios, online games, streaming videos, etc.)

Session layer

The Session layer coordinates data transfer between cooperating session layers.

Presentation layer

This layer is responsible for formatting of the data for application entities. Its functions are code and alphabet encrypting, graphic arrangement modification, etc.

Application Layer

The Application layer provides the application entities with the access to the communication system and thus enables their cooperation.

It has been stated that the software being brought to us by the company Astute is set to revolutionise the way in which enterprise wide systems are utilized throughout the market place. So just what is Astute software?

This software giant started back in 1998 when a core development team brought a 30 year track record with them in the development of financial and supply chain software that was made for thousands of international business users. It was based on this experience that Astute realised that there was an ever growing need and opportunity to develop new and advanced products for the global business market whilst incorporating the latest development and deployment technologies from Microsoft.

The software brought to you from Astute is fully scalable meaning it has the option of being used for low level entry or it can cater for an infinite number of users. Astute software is also service orientated and works exclusively within the electronics industry. It seeks to satisfy customer demands and to maximise capital returns for customers whilst minimising any inconvenience in the process.

Astute software has several advantages over its competitors such as it is a component based piece of software which means that you only have to purchase and use the components that are needed for your business. These components make using this piece of software extremely easy.

One of the components that is available is the Astute Financial component. This component supports a unified ledger philosophy enabling full scalability of an enterprise and a simple solution to the many complex issues that organisations face in this rapidly changing global environment. Astute provides a unique range of features enabling greater efficiency and improved control of cash flow. Some of the features included are:

•A unified ledger design that ensures all accounts are always up to date and in balance
•Multi-dimensional enterprise structure enables flexibility for organisations to develop and grow without being inhibited by their current enterprise hierarchy or system
•Multi-currency features allowing all posting, reporting and analysis by multiple base currencies
•Web deployment ensures lower cost of ownership and enhanced customer satisfaction delivering real business advantages.

Within today’s fast paced, ever growing and competitive market things are changing and in the business world you need to have access to software that will help you to compete within the market as well as keeping all of your data up-to-date and also accurate. This is why the piece of software has been and still is the optimum choice for businesses who wish to gain maximum functionality and future flexibility from using a business application.

The need for a piece of software with this much capability has been realised and the opportunity to built such a software has been reached. This new software is an advanced product for global businesses and uses the latest development technology from Microsoft. What we see before us in this technology is a prime example of how software can be integrated successfully with not only the Internet but with aspects of Microsoft packages; it could be just what your business has been waiting for.

Spam and where it comes from

Author: Carolyn Clayton
In the society that we live in today people now class all unsolicited email as spam. This includes automatic replies, emails containing viruses and unwanted but legitimate business propositions.

In the society that we live in today people now class all unsolicited email as spam. This includes automatic replies, emails containing viruses and unwanted but legitimate business propositions.

Spam is nearly as old as the Internet and many believe that the problem of spam will never really go away as spammers are becoming increasingly difficult to stop. They are also finding more and more ways of delivering spam mail around the Internet.

One thing that many of us never really understand is how spammers get our email addresses in the first place. One of the main ways in which this is done is through spammers using computers to check almost every page of websites on the Internet looking for the ‘@’ symbol. If the symbol is found the spammer knows that it is an email address and then simply adds your email address to their database so that when the spammer sends out an automated spam message everyone who is on the database will receive it.

Spammers get your email address without you even realising it. The way in which you can reduce the chance of this happening is to ensure that you don’t place your email address on pages across the Internet; however if you need to do this for example for customers of your business to get in touch with you or if someone has requested your email address you should make it accessible to them by replacing the @ symbol, i.e. name[at]domain[dot]com. Spammer programmes will not be able to pick this up as an email address and you will still be able to place your email address on webpage’s.

Another way in which spammers are able to get a hold of your email address is if your email address is sorted on someone’s computer who gets a virus. Spam virus takes advantage of an infected computer and sends spam emails to all the addresses sorted within that PC. These spam emails do not get sent from the email address of the infected computer owner; they are sent from a fake, spam email address.

If you are finding that you are getting spam messages there are certain steps that you can take to reduce the amount of spam that you receiving, as well as getting a spam blocker/filter you should always remember to never reply to the spam email and never un-subscribe. Many people think that if they request to be taken off a ‘mailing’ list that they won’t receive any more spam emails. This is in fact opposite of what actually happens. If you request to un-subscribe the only thing that you are doing is verifying to a spammer that your email account is valid and they will simply send you more spam mail as they think that you are reading them.

The best reaction to take to spam mail is no reaction. You should never interact with a spammer in anyway as they will just send you more spam emails. To tackle spam messages you should invest in an anti-spam software and let that take care of the spam for you.

Privacy on the Internet

Spyware is part of an overall public concern about privacy on the Internet. Experts in the field of Internet privacy have a consensus that Internet privacy doesn’t actually exist.

Spyware is part of an overall public concern about privacy on the Internet. Experts in the field of Internet privacy have a consensus that Internet privacy doesn’t actually exist.

It has been noted that spyware infects nearly 90% of Internet connected PC’s, with the main bulk of it coming from the installation of software. By installing certain software you could be placing media plugins, spyware, backdoor santa’s and Trojans on your PC; all of which are being placed there without your permission.

It is due to the increase in spyware that makes it important that you check and read all the disclosures, license agreement and privacy statements as sometimes the inclusion of unwanted spyware is documented within one of these. So just what happens to the information that is collected by companies through the use of spyware? It is believed that this information is potentially being sold and combined with other databases to build up profiles of individual web users for direct marketing purposes.

When spyware is present on your computer it performs certain behaviours such as advertising, collecting personal information or changing the configuration of your computer. Spyware has the ability to change your home page as well as adding additional components to your browser that you don’t need and don’t want. These changes can slow your computer down as well as being the cause of it crashing. Marketing firms often object to their programmes being referred to as spyware, which is why you may hear it being referred to as potentially unwanted programmes (PUP).

Spyware is made up by any technology that aids in gathering information about a person without their knowledge. This information that is gathered is then relayed to advertisers and other interested parties.

One example of spyware that most people will easily recognise is a cookie. This well known mechanism is used for storing data about an Internet user. If a website stores information about you in a cookie that you don’t know about it can be considered as being spyware.

Although spyware doesn’t steal personal information such as credit card numbers or you’re identify there is a real concern that this could happen in the future with yet more Internet and computer advancements. Spyware does however track your Internet use. It keeps a record of the products that you purchase and the type of websites that you visit and then uses this information to target advertisements at you based on its findings. For example if you have brought a number of comedy DVD’s or frequently visit sites to do with comedy, you may notice advertisements on many of the Internet pages that you visit will be based around comedy. The fact that this can actually happen is worrying; it demonstrates a real threat to our private lives and shines as an example of how easy it would be to use software such as spyware to gain confidential files and credit information.

There are a number of anti spyware solutions available to you, some of which are free, it is highly advised that you invest in an anti spyware solution as it can stop potential threats before it’s too late.

Download Free Games & Movies For Iphone

Yes, you really can get free downloads of games and movies for your Iphone. If you're one of the lucky folks that has got in early and nabbed an Iphone already, you are definitely going to want to know how to get your hands on some of this free media.

Before you can download anything at all for your Iphone however, there are a few things you will need. You can't currently download directly to the Iphone, for one reason or another, so these items are a must.

The most obvious is a computer. It's pretty hard to access the internet without one and also you will need to store the downloaded stuff somewhere before you transfer it to the Iphone, right?

Secondly, you guessed it, some form of internet connection. This is probably the easiest part, as if you have a notebook or a laptop you can probably just sit in your local Starbucks and piggyback their wireless connection or something. As always, the faster the connection you can get, the better.

Lastly, and this is the thing most people forget about – you need to have the space to store all the stuff. The iphone may be pretty advanced but it's not bottomless – and it sure fills up fast once you have access to some free downloads.

Once you have all this stuff, (and let's face it if you are reading this article the chances are you already do) you'll need to find somewhere to download the free games and movies from. Most people at one point or another have used a file sharing or bit torrent site to get downloads, but it may surprise you to know that this is against the law – it's illegal to download things from websites like that in the most case, unless you already own a copy of whatever you download. Odd but true. Always check the laws and regulations in your own area.

There are a whole host of download sites for you to choose from these days, and they mainly work by charging you a one-off admin fee which then gives you lifetime access to their download libraries. The libraries are huge, with some having over 100 million files for you to look through. This makes it very easy to find your favourite TV show, or pretty much anything else you may be looking for. These sites are definitely recommended to get your free game and movie downloads from.

This article should give you a great idea of how to safely go about download free stuff for your Iphone.

Spambots and Forums

Author: Carolyn Clayton
Everyone of us who is a regular Internet user, whether it is merely having an email account, posting on websites or owning your own website have more than likely experienced spam at some point, with most people suffering from the burden everyday.

Everyone of us who is a regular Internet user, whether it is merely having an email account, posting on websites or owning your own website have more than likely experienced spam at some point, with most people suffering from the burden everyday.

Although email spam remains the biggest threat and annoyance to Internet users there are other forms of spam on the Internet that are catching up, the main example being forum spam. If you have a large website that has a lot of space your forum will most likely be powered by MySQL, vBulletin, Invasion Power Board or phpBB etc. These power the biggest forums and are the most used throughout websites on the Internet that have forums. By using one of these programmes to power your forum you will have less of a problem when it comes to spam as in order to post on forums powered by these you have to be a member of the forum.

Forums that have the worst problems with spam aren’t doomed however; there are steps that can be taken to reduce the amount of spam posts that appear on these forums. You should always make sure that people have to register on your forum to be able to post on it. By doing this you are given the opportunity to moderate new users, by doing this you will be able to keep an eye on the type of messages that these new users leave on your forum; if the messages are genuine then you can start to un-moderate these users, however if the posts that they make are spam then you are able to delete their membership before they start posting a vast amount.

Although it was believed that by making people have to register to your forum in order to stop spam being posted, this theory has been proven wrong due to what are known as spambots. These spambots are automated programmes that are made for the purpose of registering on forums. They supply the forum with a fake name and email address and even mask their IP address making them untraceable. Spammers then use these spambots to post on the forums. The spammer sets the message that the spambot will leave and the spambots signature on the forum will be filled with links that will take you to the spammer’s website. These links will more than likely take you to sites that are based around gambling, pornography and pharmaceuticals, which are normally weight loss supplements.

These spambots increase the workload of a forum administrator, making the moderators of a forum have to check every new member and on a forum that has an average of hundreds of new members within a week, this job becomes to time consuming, which in effect pushes up the labour costs of running the site.

Forums are meant to represent a place where opinions on a certain subject matter can be shared, somewhere you can share news with other members as well as being a host for expert advice; spammer’s are taking this privilege away from genuine users and are starting to discourage people from using the forum.

how to get music for iPhone

If you have an Iphone, firstly congratulations-it's been very tough to get hold of one, especially in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, and secondly, have you ever wondered how to get a good music collection onto it?

If you have an Iphone, firstly congratulations-it's been very tough to get hold of one, especially in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, and secondly, have you ever wondered how to get a good music collection onto it?

If you have, you will be glad to know that essentially there are two main sources for your music (unlike the lucky Zune owners, Iphone owners aren't able to transfer songs directly with their friends). The best way to get an absolutely huge selection of songs into your Iphone is by downloading them from the internet, and the other, slightly less cool way is to simply transfer your existing cd collection onto the iphone. This is ok, but it just means the same old songs for you.

Using either method will mean you need a computer, and if you plan to use the internet you'll obviously need some kind of internet connection, and to transfer from CD you will need some ripping software-this is just a fancy name for a program that records music from your CD and saves in into Windows as a file so you can then do what you like with it. It's pretty fast as well, so it's not like you have to play the whole CD through or anything, it will usually take a couple of minutes tops.

Once you have the songs you want to transfer stored on your computer, it's simply a case of connecting the Iphone to the computer and letting Itunes sync with it, which should then store all the new stuff onto the Iphone. Simple huh?

Downloading songs from the internet is a little more complicated, but then it's worth it as you'll be getting a lot of new music. The main thing to take into account is that you want to stay very aware of how secure your computer system is. Iphones and Ipods etc are very popular, and the hackers and other unsavory characters know it only too well. There are a few sites around which will claim to offer all kinds of free music and downloads etc, only to give you downloads that are infected with trojans/viruses etc. For this reason you need to be very careful what kind of site you are using.

You'll find that there are some sites out there that will give you real free downloads for your Iphone, but they certainly take some finding. A useful way of spotting them is to expect to play a nominal fee to get your membership. It's something like $50 or so for life, which may seem steep but it usually gives you totally unlimited downloads, so offers good value in the long run.

Once you manage to get a few downloads, you can just transfer them to your Iphone using the Itunes program.

This article should have given you a real understanding of how to find and put music onto your Iphone.

Web Filtering in the Business Place

Author: Carolyn Clayton
Web filtering is often seen as being a controversial subject with many people arguing as to why we actually need web filtering software.

Web filtering is often seen as being a controversial subject with many people arguing as to why we actually need web filtering software. As many people have agreed, content filtering software is a great idea to be used in homes that have small children as well as being used in schools, both primary and senior as it protects children against websites that they are too young to see and also protects them from the prospect of paedophiles.

The one place that always causes a divide of opinions when it comes to web filtering is the suggestion of using it within the work place. This is controversial subject manner that divides managers and employees and leaves many people wondering is it needed in the work place.

The truth of the matter is that more and more of us are being employed in jobs that involve the use of the Internet and due to this many employees are starting to abuse the hours that should be spent working. Around half of all employees within any industry involving the Internet are using their time at work to view inappropriate sites, shop online and download and play MP3’s throughout the day. Due to this employers are becoming more and more concerned with legal liability, productivity and bandwidth use.

Businesses do have the right to monitor and filter the content that their employees are viewing on the Internet; however many employers are reluctant to let employees know that they are being monitored. This is one of the main causes of privacy and trust issues that arise within the work place. It is important that employers pay attention to employee concerns and communicate the idea of introducing content filtering to them so that any issues that either party may have can be talked through.

The main issues that most employers have when it comes to inappropriate use of the internet is sites concerning explicit content, gambling and online shopping sites such as eBay. Socialising sites however, such as myspace and facebook are also top concerns as a waste of employee time.

The way in which many of the web filtering software packages that are out today work are by operating a block list. This block list comprises of all the Internet sites that employees will not be able to gain access to. This list can be updated daily, giving you the freedom to add more sites to the list as you find them or as they come out. This block list doesn’t just work on the website address that you type in; it also monitors search engine results meaning that if employees are searching for material that is inappropriate to the work that they are carrying out, these search results will not be able to be opened. This block list is the most effective method of content filtering that is available and is extremely easy to maintain, giving an employer complete control of what material will be accessible.

It is important to keep in mind that these software packages do not however protect your network or employees from viruses and hacks or instant messenger or email.
